Rockford doctor's business fights Asian carp invasion
stopping the spread of Asian carp. The invasive species is threatening
the Great Lakes eco-system. Dr. John Holden wants to turn the carp
into something that can be used in animal feed or for human. He and
his business partner tested a new way to process fish in Havana,
Illinois last year. Now they're just a few months away from it running

seeking batboys for the upcoming season.
The batboys have a unique opportunity for an inside view the game and
have the chance to build relationships with players and the coaching

75 teams will travel from around the country to play in the tournaments.
The first is the USSSA Girls' 14 and under July 19-24. This will be

Richards leads IceHogs past Rivermen
game unbeaten streak in a 2-1 game at the Rockford MetroCentre
Wednesday night.
The win also halted Rockford's four-game winless streak (0-3-1-0).
The IceHogs struck first on the power play. Off the face-off from the
right circle, the Hogs had a 5-on-3 for two seconds and Ben Smith
dished it back to Jeff Taffe. With the fourth skater for Peoria
getting back on the ice, Taffe glided over the slot and blasted a shot

YMCA president/CEO steps down after 23 years
the organization's community impact in his 23 years as its president,
announced Feb. 10 he plans to retire June 30, 2011.
Howard's 43-year career with the YMCA began in his home town of
Regina, Saskatchewan, Canada. He spent three years with the YMCA of
Metropolitan Chicago at the Logan Square Branch before coming to
Rockford as a program director in 1974. In his announcement, Howard
expressed how fortunate he was to have worked with such a strong,
worldwide organization that is dedicated to improving lives by
strengthening the foundations of community through programs that
address youth development, healthy living and social responsibility.

Foresters Sign Three, Including Two Local Players
Leach from Rockford, right-handed pitcher Dustin Meier of Roscoe, and
outfielder Israel Sanchez of Mission, Texas.
Tyler Leach: Leach is a 6'0" 175lbs 1B/infielder from Rockford, IL
and currently plays for St. Ambrose University. Leach graduated and
played baseball at Jefferson High School. He plays on St. Ambrose's
team with fellow Rockford Foresters player Conner Kretz.
Dustin Meier: Meier is returning to the Rockford Foresters after
joining the team in the middle of the 2010 Championship Season. Meier
is from Roscoe and currently plays for Oakton Community College where
he is a right-handed pitcher.
Israel Sanchez: Currently plays for Sauk Valley Community College,
which is where Rockford Foresters Head Coach Rene Valdez is the Head
Coach as well. Sanchez is a sophomore there and is an outfielder.
Sanchez is from Mission, TX.
With these three player announcements, the Rockford Foresters roster
stands at 27. The Midwest Collegiate League allowed 30 players to be
on a roster.

Rockford School Board Votes in Favor of Independent Review of Finances

obvious agenda - that being to save the jobs of its members."
Superintendent Dr. LaVonne Sheffield denounces the teachers union's
statements made earlier this week.
"We have discovered that this administration has made critical
mistakes and miscalculations," REA President Molly Phalen previously
said Tuesday.
The union said the district's budget deficit is really around $15
million instead of $50 million. REA leaders also said administrators
misplaced $41 million dollars. Now district leaders said that money
was recorded wrong on state documents, but the bottom line of 50
million is still correct.

Athlete of the Week: Winnebago's Michael Sojka
regional title at Harvard over the weekend. Sojka, the topped ranked
wrestler in Class 1A, defeated second ranked Clay Chaberski of
Genoa-Kingston to win the title.
"It just gets harder and harder every time you wrestle somebody and
they're going to try and close the gap so you just try and stay one
step ahead of them and I love it," Sojka said.

Blackhawks trade Skille, Jessiman to Florida
Skille and Hugh Jessiman to the Florida Panthers late Wednesday night.
In exchange for Skille, Jessiman and prospect David Pacan, the
Blackhawks received forward Michael Forlik and goaltender Alexander
Salak.
The 22-year old Frolik ranks second on the Panthers with 21 assists
and 29 points in 52-regular season games. He has finished as one of
Florida's Top-3 goal scorers, and Top-5 point producers, in each of
his first two NHL seasons.

Rockford Forester Ticket Design Competition - Submit Your Design
The Rockford Foresters announced today that they are hosting a design
competition that will let fans design the tickets that will be used
for the 2011 season. Up to five different designs will be selected,
with each design being featured on the tickets of at least six
different games. Deadline for entry is March 15 with the winner being
selected on Monday, March 21.
Rules for the competition:
* Designs can be done either on the computer or on paper
* There are no age restrictions - Deadline to enter is March 15
* All designs must include the following:
o The Rockford Foresters logo
Fans can log onto the Rockford Foresters web site,
www.RockfordForesters.com, to see an example of last season's ticket
for the team. Designs may be change/altered in order to meet
requirements by the ticket printing company. All winners that are
selected will get four tickets to a game on Opening Weekend where they
will be introduced to fans before the game, copies of the tickets that
their design will be on, and a Rockford Foresters t-shirt and hat.

2011 season.
The RiverHawks are looking for dedicated individuals in search of
experience regarding baseball operations. This is an outstanding
opportunity for those looking to enter the sports industry.
Individuals will receive proper training for their selected field of
work and gain valuable knowledge throughout the internship.
Internships are offered in many areas such as stadium operations,
concessions, video production, ticketing, baseball operations, and
groundskeeping.
The team is offering multiple levels of internships, from daily roles
to part-time positions.
